Naming it: from CardWall to TCG Marquee
For its first few days the project was called CardWall. It described the idea well, but a product needs a name you can own.
The search
- cardwall.com was for sale, for $10,000. Too much for a project in its first week.
- TCG Wall felt too broad.
- TCG Ticker matched the stock ticker feel, but tcgticker.com was taken.
- I wanted to keep TCG in the name, since that's how collectors describe the hobby, and looked for another word for a glowing sign.
Marquee fit: it's the lit-up sign outside a theater, it suggests something worth announcing, and tcgmarquee.com was available. That night everything was renamed, and CardWall became TCG Marquee.
