TCG Marquee

An app on your home screen, and a site that finally looks like itself

Today was mostly about how TCG Marquee looks and feels, especially on a phone. I wrote up a design review of every page, with screenshots of what works and what doesn't, and then started working through it.

The fonts were never loading

This one surprised me. The site was designed around two fonts, Chakra Petch for headings and Figtree for everything else, and the font files were sitting on the server the whole time. But no page ever told the browser to load them, so everyone saw whatever font their device fell back to. Every page now loads them, and the site finally looks like the board and the share images do.

Prices also moved to Figtree. In Chakra Petch the decimal point is so small that "$6,892.10" could read as "$6,89210", which is the last thing you want on a price board.

Built for the phone

Add it to your home screen

TCG Marquee now installs like an app. On an iPhone, open the site in Safari, tap Share, then Add to Home Screen. It gets its own icon and opens full screen, without the browser around it. On Android, open Chrome's menu and choose Add to Home screen.

Share your wall

There's a new Share button under the wall preview. It turns the page you're looking at into an image of the glowing LED panel, sized for an Instagram post, a Story or TikTok, or Reddit and Discord, with an optional caption. On a phone it opens the normal share sheet so you can post it straight away.

Smaller fixes

Next up: the collection. Card pictures, a more compact list on phones, and filters that don't take over the whole screen.
