Scan your cards with your phone's camera
This morning's post covered the design work. This afternoon went to the feature I've wanted since the start: adding cards without typing.
Point, tap, next card
On Collection, Add a card, there's a new Scan cards with the camera button. It opens your phone's camera with a card-shaped frame. Hold a card in the frame and tap the button, and it's identified while you line up the next one. Scan a stack, then check the list:
- Wrong match? Tap the card and pick from the other likely matches.
- Set the printing, condition, and quantity before anything is added. Scan the same card twice and it counts as two copies instead of listing it twice.
- Slabs work too. Scan a PSA, BGS, CGC, or TAG slab and the grader and grade are filled in from the label (graded prices are part of the Pro plan).
- When the list looks right, Add cards puts them all in your collection at once.
It works for every game TCG Marquee supports: Pokemon, Magic: The Gathering, Lorcana, One Piece, Gundam, and Riftbound. No camera, or you'd rather not allow it? Choose photos you already took instead, several at a time.
The scanning itself runs on Scrydex, the same service that supplies the prices. Good light and a plain background help it the most. This is brand new, so if it picks the wrong card, tell me which one with the Feedback link at the top of the page. Those reports are exactly what I need to make it better.
Share images that fit Instagram
The Share button on the Wall made a square image, and Instagram cut the sides off. That's because Instagram now shows posts in a taller shape, and its post editor zooms a square in to fill it. There's now an Instagram post size (4:5, Instagram's own recommended shape), and it's the default. Every size now keeps the wall, your caption, and the web address safely inside the part each app actually shows, including the area Stories and Reels cover with their own buttons.
Email you can count on
Invites, password resets, and price alerts now go out through a new email service, sent from tcgmarquee.com. If you ever asked for an invite or a reset and it never showed up, that's fixed, so try again.
Behind the scenes
A few fixes you won't see but might have run into:
- If the price service was briefly unreachable, saving a card could fail. Now it saves, and the price fills in on the next refresh.
- Moving cards between accounts no longer doubles cards that are already there.
That's it for today. If you have a stack of cards on your desk, give the scanner a try and let me know how it does.
